Edward Leslie Grant

Edward “Eddie” Leslie Grant, born in Franklin, Massachusetts on May 21, 1883, was a lawyer, major league baseball player, and war hero. After graduating from Franklin High School, he attended Dean for a year before enrolling at Harvard. Grant completed his undergraduate studies there in 1905 and went on to attain a law degree, also from Harvard, in 1909.

 

Eddie Grant played third base for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1908-1909, the Cincinnati Reds from 1911-1913, and the New York Giants (now the San Francisco Giants) from 1913-1915. In April of 1917, he enlisted for World War I and on October 5, 1918 became one of the few Major League Baseball players to be killed in action during the war.
